Cars in German Town Found Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers reported they were contacted by a man who noticed a vehicle in Hanau smeared with red-colored fluid

Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.

Police report they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.

The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they added.

Law enforcement then found many other marked vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement report preliminary tests indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; officials are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the event," they commented.

City officials said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have asked to the residents for details.

A senior representative stated the vandalism left him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.

"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, referring to the death of nine people by a assailant focusing on people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
