It proved to be a night of major surprises and predictable progressions in the League Cup, with a tournament's front-runners making an unexpected departure.
Stunning Loss for Liverpool
The Eagles produced a dominant 3-0 victory over their hosts, sealing a remarkable hat-trick of successes against Arne Slot's side in recent months.
The outcome means the South London club have now beaten their opponents on 3 separate instances, including a penalty shoot-out win in the season's traditional curtain-raiser and a two-one league triumph at their home ground.
The traveling fans could be heard playfully chanting, "Shall we face you every week?"
Historic Chance for The Eagles
Despite their recent successes, Crystal Palace have never made it to the final of this competition, being eliminated at the last-four phase on four previous times.
The last semi-final appearance was back in 2001, which makes their current run especially noteworthy for them.
Compounding the recent success, the team had also never won the Football Association Challenge Cup or Community Shield prior to this year.
Additional Teams Progressing
Meanwhile, other major clubs booked their place in the next round.
- Arsenal continued their impressive run with a commanding performance.
- The Blues also advanced, showing their intent in the competition.
- The Magpies joined the teams moving forward, providing more excitement to the cup.
This tournament continues to deliver excitement and surprises, setting up an intriguing road to the culmination at Wembley.
