NFL 2025 season: Week six
Real-time updates features text commentary of the weekend matchups on various channels, starting with Denver Broncos v New York Jets at Tottenham (kicking off at 2 PM BST). Also, audio coverage can be heard on designated networks for a separate game (beginning at 9 PM BST).
We're in the sixth week of the NFL season , following recent discussion about the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles being possible championship contenders, they both surrendered their unbeaten records.
Notable during those contests was the number of infractions both committed. Philadelphia did so in key moments meaning they essentially beat themselves having led 17-3 going into the final quarter against Denver, set to play in London this weekend.
However it proved good to see how Denver's QB the rookie managed to overcome that deficit and then lead three scoring drives in three attempts during the final period, to win the game 21-17.
The Broncos have the top defender in cornerback Pat Surtain II. They are first in red zone defence, while Philadelphia lead the league in red zone offence, and Denver prevailed in that battle.
They had the Eagles' number in terms of disguised blitzes. They weren't necessarily sending more than four pass rushers instead they could position two linebackers in the interior before drop them out and send a nickel off the edge.
Early on in the campaign, it was noted on a program how Denver could be this season's dark horses. They finished the previous year strongly and excelled in continuing that momentum.
Could Denver be this year's underdog story?
New TE Evan Engram has excelled significantly and new RB JK Dobbins is a player they believe in. He's currently 5th in the NFL in ground gains (over 400) and tied-fourth in rushing scores (four).
It's impressive that head coach the Broncos' leader has "RUN IT!" at the top on his call sheet.
This demonstrates that the Broncos represent a team aiming to run first, since one can achieve much off the back of that. It slows opposing rushes while keeps you in favourable situations.
This has helped quarterback the young passer, who came the NFL as the 12th overall draft pick in the prior draft, passing for 29 touchdown passes – just behind a star QB for the rookie record (31 back in 2020).
Josh Allen and Herbert have the arm strength to pass anywhere, but they lack in the same way that Nix has. He boasts exceptional arm talent, which is different, plus he is highly agile.
His strengths include his movement, the capacity to throw while moving, as well as finding varied release points to deliver the pass when he rolls out of the pocket, on rollouts. He is able to throw precision throws over the middle and over the corner.
As a rookie QB, aged 25, he's got a lot of composure under pressure and is not really fazed by extra rushers. He tries to evade being tackled as much as possible and is able throw in tight spots. He has sharp intelligence and is quick to decide.
When you consistently rush it consumes the clock and forces the defence to stay in play for longer, and if you have an athletic quarterback the defence has to defend the field downfield and horizontally. This proves exhausting.
Nix has pushed back with the coach during games at times and it seems the coach appreciates that fire, seeing him as such a competitor. In my view it's fun for him to have a rookie QB that is similar to moldable clay. He can really develop him how he desires to build it. I think it's a unique opportunity for the coach.
The head coach has won a Super Bowl and has surpassed Bill Parcells for career NFL wins (173, tying for 14th). He has witnessed it all. I think the success Denver are experiencing offensively is mostly due to his guidance, his play-calling, his situational awareness – and the combination with Nix helps shape him into who he is.
You wouldn't want a better guy in your ear, to assist you during difficult moments and boost self-belief.
I have faith in the Broncos' defense, in Bo Nix's tenacity and composure. But are they good enough to face a top squad at full strength? Since that was not championship-level play by the Eagles in their last game.
Right now, it's unlikely Denver are incredible. They're working better than most, which is a solid position to be in the AFC West. The key is is maintain this trajectory.
They excel at leaning into their forte, which is running the ball, and that's exactly what they should do against the New York Jets in London. It's going to be a Dobbins-focused game, in essence.
The Jets have allowed 140 rushing yards per game (among the worst), five ground scores so far (10th worst), and they're the only team yet to win any game.
Since the league began tracking turnovers decades ago, the Jets are the first team to go without a single takeaway in five outings, this is surprising considering that the head coach was previously a defensive coach at the Detroit Lions.
The Chiefs' QB says the Chiefs have 'already lost too many games' following a recent loss to Jacksonville.
After the upcoming matchup, the Broncos have a smooth-ish schedule up to their break (in week 12) - the New York Giants, the Cowboys, Houston Texans plus Las Vegas Raiders prior to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Looking at the AFC West, the Chiefs are 2-3 while Denver are tied with the Chargers on 3-2 so they could make a run for the top of the West.
This hinges upon which form of the Chiefs they face because the Broncos {beat|def
