UK Ready to Employ Seized Russian Assets to Finance the Ukrainian War Effort

The United Kingdom is ready to advance with utilizing the entire amount of seized Russia's funds to aid the Ukrainian war effort, PM Sir Keir Starmer has stated.

In a collective announcement, the officials of the Britain, the French Republic, and Germany emphasized that this coordinated action would increase strain on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and persuade Russia to participate in talks.

They clarified that the decision would be carried out in strong partnership with the United States.

United Kingdom restrictions have immobilized over £25bn of Russian funds since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion against Ukraine in 2022. But, until now, money provided to the Ukrainian government using Russian funds had only been sourced from gains and dividends accrued on them.

Sir Keir informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the Britain, France, and Germany were aligned in their goal to push forward toward using the complete amount of the immobilized Russia's state funds to conclude the conflict.

He stated that more restrictions in the coming days and weeks would heighten the tension on the Russian government.

This declaration follows EU leaders gathered in Copenhagen recently to debate using frozen Russia's assets for a €140 billion loan to the Ukrainian nation.

Recently, President Donald Trump urged G7 allies to seize or utilize immobilized Russia's funds, based on media sources.

The value of seized Russian funds in the EU is estimated to be nearly €211bn.

Russia launched widespread missile and drone strikes across Ukraine on recently, leading to power cuts in many areas of the capital city, Kyiv, and eight other regions.
